Some cars in this
series were rebuilt by CN/VIA from RDC-2 and RDC-3
cars, with more seats added, and had the baggage
doors covered with matching stainless steel fluting
and extra windows to disguise this. |
|
Former CP 9300-series
"RDC-5" cars (CP's own term for their RDC-2's
converted into RDC-1's) had their plated over
baggage doors replaced with matching fluting under
CN/VIA ownership. CP 9300/03/05/07 were kept by CP
for a Quebec-area commuter service (Montreal-Farnham)
that was discontinued in late 1981, and were sold to
VIA the next year in 1982 (most ex-CP units had been
transferred to VIA in 1978 when they took over most
of CP's passenger service). |
|
Most US and Canadian
RDC's were built by Budd, but some Canadian units
had the body built by Budd and final assembly done
by Canadian Car & Foundry (CC&F). This is denoted by
6900-series serial numbers, and separate
body/assembly build dates. |
